How LocalSEOLab Publishing came about
The publishing house did not start as a plan, but as an answer to a problem many writers know. Gijs Bodenstaff started writing books after conversations with Chantal Smink, SEO and content strategist and author of Het Contentkanon. She told him how hard it is for a writer, and certainly a new writer, to get a book published by a publisher. After a long series of rejections she decided to publish her books herself. Het Contentkanon (2025) is listed on Managementboek with herself as the publisher.
Gijs approached many publishers with his manuscript and reached the same conclusion. Traditional publishers are slow, take little risk with a new author and keep most of the revenue. For practical books on Google and AI search engines, where the subject shifts every quarter, that is not a workable model. So LocalSEOLab Publishing was born: a publisher that can revise quickly and keeps the author close to his readers.
What a book does for an author
In this clip from the conversation between Gijs and Chantal she explains what her book brought her: being seen as an authority, readers who approach her at conferences and invitations to podcasts.
Read the transcript (translated from Dutch)
Chantal Smink: Once you have written a book, you are suddenly seen as an authority. Especially if you work on a book in marketing. People really come up to me at conferences: hey, I read your book and I know who you are. That is really funny. And because you wrote that book, you get invited to podcasts. So then it all speeds each other up.
Editorial policy: how LocalSEOLab Publishing makes a book
A practical book about search engines ages fast and is easily copied. That is why the publisher works with five fixed rules.
- Tested first. Methods are tested in LocalSEOLab before they appear as advice in a book.
- For the Dutch market. Dutch platforms, Dutch law and Dutch examples, written in Dutch.
- A year in the title. The year shows which year the book is written for. Local Entity SEO 2027 is updated to August 2026.
- Its own ISBN per edition. A new edition gets a new ISBN, so readers and libraries know which version they have.
- No promises about rankings. The books explain how Google and AI search engines work and what you can do. They do not promise position 1.
Other books by Gijs Bodenstaff, self-published
Besides the titles of the publisher, Gijs Bodenstaff wrote books that were self-published through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). They carry a free Amazon ISBN. According to Amazon, such an ISBN is registered under the imprint "Independently published". That is why they are not on the backlist, but they do belong to all books by Gijs Bodenstaff.
