Local visibility for chains with many locations.
Author · Local SEO · GEO
I am Gijs Bodenstaff. I have worked in online marketing since 1998, and what I have tested in practice, I write down in handbooks. About the Google Business Profile, about local entities and about how your business ends up in an AI answer.

Gijs Bodenstaff is a Dutch Local Entity GEO and AI automation specialist, author and speaker. Since 2010 he has worked on local visibility in Google and AI search engines. More about Gijs
A specialist in AI visibility should be visible himself. So do not take my word for it: ask the questions below yourself in Google AI Mode or Gemini (or ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) and see what they say.

AI answers change every time and per tool. Ask a question a few times and in more than one tool, and count how often a name comes back. We promise no outcome: what you see is the answer you requested yourself.
Book launch ·
In the seminar programme of De Nationale Franchise Beurs (the Dutch national franchise fair) in Gorinchem. There I presented the second edition of the Franchise Local SEO & GEO Handboek 2027 (Franchise Local SEO and GEO handbook, in Dutch) to franchisors, franchise brand managers and future franchisees.
My message in one sentence: Google and AI systems do not look at your brand, but at each location separately. Which three points I worked out and which questions came up afterwards, you can read on the book page.

To be honest
I have worked in online marketing since 1998 and keep seeing the same patterns. Usually not out of ill will: the field changes faster than most agencies can keep up with, and the person you talk to is often an account manager, not the one who does the work. These are the reasons I come across most often. That is exactly why I wrote my books: so you can judge for yourself what works.
Claims about local SEO and AI often travel by word of mouth in this field, without anyone checking them. I first try everything out on my own sites and test locations. If something does not hold up, I say so.
Google's API policy only allows the automatic posting of review replies with prior, explicit consent from the owner. An agency selling fully automatic AI replies risks Google blocking the connection, and your profile is tied to it.
The Google Business Profile API has fixed ceilings: 300 requests per day and 10 edits per minute for each profile. Anyone who promises to sort out a hundred locations in one day has never seen those ceilings. Expect two to four weeks instead.
First checking who is satisfied and only asking those customers for a Google review: it is not allowed. Google prohibits it, and so does European legislation against unfair commercial practices, since May 2022. It actually puts your business at risk.
With some providers, the agency owns your Google Business Profile. If you end the partnership, you lose your profile and your reviews. The profile always belongs to your own organisation; the agency should only be a manager.
Hardly any agency in this market puts a rate on its website. Without a price you cannot compare providers side by side, and you only find out what it costs after a sales call.
Since December 2025 you can no longer ask and answer public questions in Google Maps. Customers now ask their question to an AI, which answers based on your profile and your reviews. On top of that, Google's Gemini help for business profiles does not work in Europe. Anyone who only polishes rankings misses where the customer is searching now.

About the author
Behind every book lies hands-on experience: almost thirty years of online marketing, two businesses of my own and years of work for and at agencies. On the author page you can read how I work, who recognises my work and how to check that for yourself.
My method
The common thread in all my books is the 30-minuten GEO-methode (30-minute GEO method), which I developed for my own clients. It consists of three layers that together make search engines and AI models recognise a business and dare to recommend it.
Make it unambiguously clear who you are, with Wikidata and schema.org as fixed anchors.
Let independent, authoritative sources confirm what you say about yourself.
Use exactly the same name and description everywhere, so all signals line up.
Questions
Seven books, in Dutch, on local visibility and AI visibility, from Local SEO 2026 to sector-specific handbooks for franchise chains, lawyers, healthcare providers and mental healthcare (GGZ) practices.
Through Amazon. Every book page has an order button that goes straight to the right edition on Amazon.nl, as paperback, hardcover or Kindle e-book.
Yes. For five books, the first chapters are free to read on this site, each on its own page, together with the full table of contents.
Building a local business into a recognisable entity: one name, one set of data and independent sources that confirm each other, from the Google Business Profile to Wikidata and schema.org.
GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization: setting up your online presence so that AI search engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity know, trust and mention your business.
Because local SEO is a field of its own. Many agencies do not test claims themselves, do not know the limits of Google's APIs or promise automatic AI review replies that Google only allows with consent.
Business owners and specialists start with Local Entity SEO 2027. For chains there is the franchise handbook, and there are also separate books for lawyers, healthcare providers and mental healthcare (GGZ) practices.
Local Entity SEO 2027 is the second, fully revised edition: 335 pages compared with 126 in the first edition, Local SEO 2026.
Yes. They are written for business owners and marketers. Where technology is needed, such as schema markup, there are examples you can copy.
Yes, through his consultancy at gijsbodenstaff.nl. The books are meant to help you get started yourself; for help with implementation you can go there.
